Lata Setty, scientist, entrepreneur and patent litigator, brings more than fifteen years of experience in litigation and intellectual property law, combined with expertise in optimizing legal and patent services. As a founding member of an LPO firm, Lata built client relationships across the US, Europe & Japan, while overseeing delivery and quality control of patent and litigation services in India, helping scale this LPO provider from 3 people to 300 within 4 years, most recently serving as it's only Senior Vice President (2004-2008). Prior to launching this LPO, Lata served at Patent Café, a patent-focused internet start-up that developed the first artificial intelligence contextual patent search engine including a 6-Sigma quality database of over 21 million international patents and at The View Group, a Venture Capital fund focusing on India-oriented companies and technologies.
Lata leveraged her extensive experience in intellectual property to counsel clients in diverse technologies including biotech, pharmaceutical, medical devices, financial services, telecommunications and high tech industries. Lata has advised clients on a wide range of issues enabling the transformation of intellectual capital into innovation assets by maximizing their economic value and generating strategies to empower business growth, serving at the oldest patent firm in the U.S., Fish & Neave, in NYC. Prior to that, she served in the patent litigation practice groups at Kaye Scholer, LLP, in NYC and Robins Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, LLP, in Minneapolis.
Drawing on her broad range of legal, technical and LPO experience, Lata is a frequent speaker at numerous international conferences, including creating a highly successful educational initiative, an Ethics CLE entitled "The Ethics of Offshoring Legal Services, including Corporate, Patent, Litigation & Research Support Services", which she was invited to present at numerous state and international Bar Associations, Fortune 500's and AmLaw 100's. Lata has been active in The Intellectual Property Owners Association, The Licensing Executives Society International, the Association of University Technology Managers, The American Intellectual Property Law Association, the European based IP-Symposium and the Minnesota Bar Association.
